I have had the good fortune to be a long-time resident of Hotel Europe. This experience has been so pleasurable and rewarding, I scarcely know where to begin in describing it. For a start, Hotel Europe’s many spacious, well-appointed suites – one of which I occupy – have everything a discerning guest might require: state-of-the-art amenities and communication/entertainment facilities, schick and comfortable furniture, floor-to-ceiling windows and a long balcony. The latter two give onto breathtaking views of the Garden Café below, Sarajevo’s Old Town and the hills beyond. Nothing lifts my spirits more than to look out this huge glass wall or to step out onto my balcony.
Perhaps even more important than the splendid accommodations is the caliber of the highly-qualified professionals dedicated to guest-satisfaction and to the impeccable operation of this gem of a hotel. From the General Director on downwards, they are peerless in their interpersonal skills, empathy, social intelligence, communication aptitude, etiquette and facility for initiative. The hotel staff anticipates every conceivable need and addresses it promptly. On the very rare occasion that an issue does arise, it is attended to with equal solicitude and celerity.
The hotel restaurant merits special mention. It is superb in every respect, particularly its breakfast buffet. The world-class chefs and extraordinarily genial waiters and managers spare no effort in making guests feel at home and sated in the midst of all that elegance and spotlessness. No less impressive are the staff at the Reception Desk, their support personnel and the housekeeping/maintenance teams. Their warm greetings each morning make my day.
I have stayed in five-star hotels throughout Europe, the United States and Turkey. None rivals Hotel Europe. This is a tribute to the General Director of Hotel Europe Group, Rasim Bajrovic, PhD, and Executive Director, Berina Bajrovic, MSc. Beyond creating a premier hotel, father and daughter have resurrected a cultural icon with a rich history stretching back 140 years, sadly interrupted by the devastation wrought by the Bosnian War. The “new” Hotel Europe is a worthy and faithful successor to the “old” Hotel Europe. It is also an eloquent expression of all that is good, enduring and irrepressible in enchanting Sarajevo. Both will always have a special place in my heart.
